Blazers- traditionally characterized as part of the "Woman's Pantsuit" a somewhat dreaded office must have. And I mean come on, when you hear the word "pantsuit" of course you'd rather not. But NO, a blazer is not just a tight in the shoulders, pain in the ass, jacket to be worn above the world's most boring dress pants. NO, it can be an ass kicking, sexy, "I'm going to run this place" fashion statement! My office attire on Tuesday consisted of my newest shoe staple, black pointed-toed flats from Express, my favorite black, ankle-length, straight- legged work pants (the greatest Target find of my life), a shimmery light blue tank, once again Express, and my black blazer with black and white striped cuffed sleeves (a Kohl's gem). I haven't had so many compliments on my outfit since Prom and I was wearing a blazer!!!!!! It's what could only be described as a fashionable, modern day, fashionista's version of a "pantsuit" but let's steer clear from that word. Demi Lovato lit up the Red Carpet and the stage at The Grammys in, wait for it... BLAZERS. She looked poised, elegant, confident and ready to rule the world, not just The Grammy stage. You don't have to be satisfied with the way something is or with the status quo, if you don't like it, make the change! Nobody liked blazers when they were only a boring, uncomfortable office necessity, so we changed this. Now, you can find a blazer in just about every color (I bought a blush pink yesterday and I'm in love). You can style them with statement necklaces, cute tanks underneath, and how about any color jegging or work pant you'd like. You don't have to wear the traditional office "pantsuit". Wear what speaks to you, what shows your personality. You WILL still look professional, but with that fashionista flare. You'll still be respected and they will remember you. As Coco Chanel said, "Dress impeccably and they remember the woman." So let's brainstorm for a minute... what do you think about: -Mint green jeggings, a white collared button-up tank and navy blue blazer, paired with nude pointed-toe flats? -A blush pink blazer with a simple black tank underneath and black and white striped pants, accented with gold jewelry? -Maroon jeggings with a charcoal dress shirt and a black blazer, paired with charcoal gray booties? Fashion is ever-changing, styles come in, go out, and then come back in again. I have to say, I am LOVING this blazer revolution so credit to whoever the first lady was that walked into the office with confidence, personality and a modern, fashionista-approved "Pantsuit". Sweaters. A fashionable necessity since the dawn of time (basically). While they've taken many different forms over the years, sweaters remain a mainstay in the fashion world. I mean think about it- Every cave woman made a sweater from the fur shaved off her dinner (what?!). And let's be real, who's not desperately craving the day when the collared knit sweaters of the 30s and 40s with the tie at the top come back in style?! I seriously am. How cute were those button up sweaters worn atop poodle skirts in the 50s?! The 80s were characterized with vibrant colors and fun designs on sweaters that matched the perfect pair of leg warmers and these led into the intricately designed, Dr. Neil Miller (The Santa Clause), sweaters of the 90s. Finally, let's not forget everyone's favorite- the UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER!! Talk about a trend that dominates the retail scene every December.
But what do sweaters look like today? The oversized knit sweater is what every fashionista is strutting this season. It's winter's hottest trend. It's that wannabe hot girl so I'll throw my hair into a messy bun, put on leggings, and top it off with a comfortable yet fashionable too-big-for-me sweater look. Dress it up or dress it down. These knit sweaters are so versatile. My favorite one (an oversized charcoal knit cardigan) goes perfectly with a bun on the top of my head, my maroon aztec print leggings, and my wardrobe-favorite black combat boots. It's a comfy and relaxed look, yet with that fashionable rocker flare. I could stay in it all day. I love my taupe brown knit poncho. And this is an oversized sweater I LOVE to dress up- It's become one of my favorite office outfits. With this sweater, black pants, and a heeled black boot, I feel ready to conquer the world of Public Relations when I step into the office on a winter morning. What does your favorite oversized sweater look like? Are you in on this trend? Which sweater decade is your favorite? Let me know! Thanks for reading! :) -Karleigh Michele |
